Tips When Shopping for a Wedding Dress

When to Start Shopping for Your Wedding Dress Give yourself ample time to plan- generally the rule of thumb is that you need to order your gown at least six months before your wedding. So you should ideally start shopping for your gown nine months or more before your wedding. (If you don't have this much time, it's okay, just budget for some rush charges).

Plan Ahead Take a few minutes to think about what you want. It will be helpful when you enter the maze of wedding dresses out there to know what your budget is, any details that are essential (i.e. I must have a full skirt, or my arms must be covered), and an idea of how traditional you want your dress to be. After all, if really a teal pantsuit would work best for you, it's probably not worth your time to sort through racks of flouncy white gowns.

Be Comfortable! On your wedding day, you'll want to look great, but you'll also want to be comfortable- it will be hard to dance and laugh (not to mention posing for all those pictures) if you're tugging your dress up or have boning jutting into your ribs.

First- consider which wedding dress is most appropriate to your day – for example, consider a shorter tea-length or cocktail length dress for a beach wedding. If you're the type who likes to dance with her hands in the air, and anticipates doing the limbo, perhaps a strapless dress is not the one for you. Look for wedding dresses with removable sleeves or straps to give you the widest range of options.

A Dress that Fits Your Body Well Think about your body type and what kinds of dresses generally look good on you. Take a look at what you regularly wear that makes you feel confident and beautiful, and then look for a wedding dress with similar lines.

Most of all, remember this is your wedding day. Wear whatever makes you comfortable and feels like you. And have fun shopping for your wedding dress. It should be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Trend Alert: A Touch of Color!

One of the biggest trends going on these days that we love are brides with colored shoes! It is simply adorable. It is a great way for a bride to wear a touch of her wedding colors while keeping her dress the traditional white or ivory. And the best part is you can always wear your shoes again!

Watters & Wtoo Preview Party & Trunk Show

Tomorrow, November 11, 2010 we will be having a Watters & Wtoo Collection Preview Party in our store! Come see their beautiful gowns from their Spring 2011 collection. You don't want to miss out on these great gowns! The party is at our store at 2438 W. Anderson Lane Austin, TX 78757 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. RSVP to jessica@serendipitybridal.com.

On Friday and Saturday we will be having our
Watters & Wtoo Trunk show in the store. If you can't make it to the party, call for your appointment to try the gowns on for yourself. We would love to see you there!

Below is an interview with Maria Prince, Vice President of
Watters, on their new Spring 2011 collection...

Your Wedding: That one moment in time when the memories, hopes, and dreams of all who have come before guide you down the aisle and into a world that is new, vibrant, and yet to be lived.

Your Bridal Gown: Layers of delicate lace reflecting an old world charm in a gown instantly fresh, young… and distinctly you. The old handing the future over to the new… It’s your wedding day, and you look amazing!

“The past represents so many wonderful traditions, not only in fashion but in all aspects of life,” says Maria Prince, Vice-President for Watters bridal gowns. “To us, it is all about taking what was important and swirling this together with what is modern and original.”

Blending of vintage has been a constant in the Watters collections, and their Spring 11 line carries this tradition forward for their next generation of brides. This year the Watters’ designers selected vintage ingredients such as laces and ribbons, and used techniques such as hand-rolled flowers and delicate beaded embroidery patterns, combing them with contemporary fabrics and shapes to create an array of magical once-upon-a-time gowns.

Layering of fabrics definitely plays a part in the Spring 11 Watters line. Tulle over silk taffeta and embroidery over washed-silk organzas lend to a very romantic look. Brides will also find layers of laces with subtle floral designs and other inspirations from nature.

Our designers remain aware, embracing all that is around us, as so many elements play into a design,” says Maria. “Our teams pour over design books from years past, unearthing treasures from boutiques across the globe.” She adds that the 1950s and 1960s remain particularly inspiring as the silhouettes then were graceful, ladylike, and offered such great detail.

The Spring 11 line is a culmination of 23 years of passion for what the Watters team does. “Our designs continue to evolve. We are always challenging ourselves to go further, to reach new heights when it comes to bridal gown design,” continues Maria. “Our goal is to make each bride feel fabulous on her big day. Our designs for Spring 11 certainly set the stage for each bride to be radiant as she steps onto the aisle.”

Maria’s advice to today’s brides as they begin searching for that one gown for that one day: “Follow your heart. Your gown is a reflection of your most beautiful self. Stay true to your instincts.”

Serendipity Bridal is so excited to offer our brides this opportunity to preview the Watters Spring 2011 gowns. Please join us on Thursday evening, November 11, for the preview as well as food, drink, and an opportunity to meet and visit with Watters Vice-President Maria Prince. RSVP to Jessica@serendipitybridal.com.

Then, join us again on Saturday, November 13 for the Watters trunk show! Serendipity serves mimosas and freshly baked cookies to our patrons throughout the day each Saturday.

We hope to see you there!

Matching

It's very important to understand the "vibe" of your wedding dress. This will help you when it comes to accessorizing your gown. Ask yourself, is my dress modern? vintage? classic? destination? or extremely formal? Recently we saw a bride in an extremely modern dress with extremely vintage earrings. It was all wrong. Be sure to keep the look consistent from your dress to your earrings, other jewelry and veil.

If you need help accessorizing your gown please come into Serendipity and let one of our consultants help you. We have a great selection of beautiful jewelry from all over. Our veil selection is beautiful as well! We look forward to helping you accessorize soon!

Happy Shopping!

Real Bride, Tina Jaso!

Serendipity is happy to share with you our bride Tina Jaso. Below are pictures and an interview we had with Tina about her shopping experience at Serendipity and most importantly her big day!

How and when did you meet your fiance?

We met in 1996. We were high school sweethearts. After graduating, Rick left to join the Marines while I pursued a career in real estate. After 11 long years we reunited…and here we are today!

How long have you two been together?
Since our “reunion” we’ve been together for a year and a half. Altogether, we celebrated about 4 years of dating before we finally tied the knot.

How did he propose?
During a cruise touring the Eastern Caribbean, Rick proposed to me while we were standing in the crystal clear waters in Grand Turk. It was beautiful.

What dress did you get from Serendipity?

Watters: Wtoo collection, style “Tilly”. A white strapless Silky Taffeta dress with folded neckline, draped midriff and full skirt, empire accentuated with beaded motif (which I had removed).

How was your shopping experience at Serendipity and who was your consultant?
My overall experience was pure enjoyment. Taylor was my consultant. After trying on a handful of dresses, I was ready to move on to the next boutique when Taylor insisted that I try on a gown that she found. Needless to say, it was the dress I chose and my hunting was over. On top of that, Taylor advised me that I could save money by purchasing my gown during a trunk show. She made sure that I was nothing short of satisfied! I had my alterations done with Noori, who was recommended by Serendipity. Noori was a pleasure to work with. She went above and beyond my expectations. My dress fit as though it was custom designed to my specifications. Thank you, Serendipity, for helping make me feel like a princess on my wedding day!

Now that you are married what is a piece of advice you would give to future brides?
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff. Enjoy the planning and preparation rather than make a job out of it. In the end, your day will be beautiful no matter what. Rain or shine.

What are you and your husband up to now?
Rick is working overseas while I continue focusing on real estate here in Austin. In the meantime, we are relishing the possibility of growing our family in the near future!

What was the most memorable thing about your wedding day?

Family. It was a delight to see our family and friends come together with such high spirits. The dancing, the toasts, the laughter…our wedding day provided us all with magical moments and memories that will never be forgotten.

Congratulations again Tina, you were a beautiful bride! Thank you for letting Serendipity be apart of your wedding planning experience!

Taylor Morgan Launch Party

Tomorrow, September 1st, we are having a launch party for our newest designer Taylor Morgan. Come see the gowns, meet Taylor Morgan and enjoy food and drink. We hope to see you there!

Where: Serendipity Bridal
When: Wednesday, September 1
Time: 6:30-8:30
Address: 2438 W. Anderson Lane
Austin, TX 78757

Mixing it up!

The make over continues and we are almost finished. All the walls are painted now except for the peacock area and bathroom. The "peacock area" is where brides go out to strut their stuff in front of our large mirrors. Much like a peacock would do.

Peacock area, still needs paint. You can see a sample on the wall of what we may do:

We moved the gowns all around to have bridal gowns on both sides:

We now have a cute bridesmaid section in the back of the store. (These are not the curtains we ended up using):

Few more things to do but it is coming along beautifully! Be sure to come by and see it for yourself!

Have a good day!

Make Over: Day One

We decided it was time for a make over in the store. Serendipity has been around for over 20 years so it was a long time coming. Our new colors are white and pale blue. It is amazing what a little bit of paint can do to change the entire feel of the store.

It is going to be a long process to totally finish the whole store with new furniture and everything but here is the beginning of it all...

After...

Tip of the Day

Bridal gowns run in  European sizes. Which means you will most likely order a size you don't usually wear. If you usually wear an American size 6 you might order a size 8 or 10 depending on the designer. If you are in between sizes, which is common, always order the bigger size to be safe. Remember it is easier to take a gown in then to let it out.
